The Best Yes

This lady is speaking my language! Lysa TerKeurst writes with homour, honesty and transparency…not to mention a good grasp of the Bible. This book is a mix of her personal story mixed with many tips on how whether to say yes or no to the decisions we all face in life.
As a recovering people pleaser, “The Best Yes” is helping me explore for myself what types of demands I should commit to, and which I should not. I’m also realizing that I used to emotionally commit myself to so many things, that weren’t even my responsibility to carry. It was exhausting.
One of my best girlfriends back in Canada and I are reading this book together. We’re regularly iMessaging quotes, encouragements and questions to each other about what we’re getting out of “The Best Yes”. It’s fun. It’s challenging. And for me, it’s life changing.

Redeeming Love

This is a classic, Christian novel most women my age would have read. I never got around to reading it, because…well…I wasn’t a Christian! It’s hard for me to get into a novel. Non-fiction is more my thing. But I wanted to give this one a go based on what I’d heard from others who said Redeeming Love is a must-read.
I’ve gotten sucked into the world of Angel and Michael Hosea. I appreciate how Francine Rivers writes about the way God weaves the characters’ lives together, how God pursues the broken and shame-filled Angel, and at the same time strengthens Hosea’s resolve to remain married. Angel’s lack of self-worth and habit of running away when things seem too good mirror the self-sabotaging way I approach my own life at times.
I’ve still got a lot of the book to go, but I know God is teaching me a lot about His character, never-ending pursuit of fickle people and His desire to redeem through this book.

Relevant

Relevant says it’s the magazine about faith, culture and intentional living.
Sign me up.
Those are pretty the three things that get my heart pumping, my mind racing and ideas flowing. It’s great to read from big-thinkers about how to weave together faith in Christ with our everyday lives. I want to get better at communicating that very thing whether it be through writing or speaking or my daily interactions.
One of the main reasons I’m reading past issues of Relevant is to learn more about writing styles. I want to get better at writing. I want to get better at communicating thoughts and ideas. So, in reading I'm hoping to improve in those areas.
