What's What: August.

13/8/2014

Here's a look at what's been happening so far this month, as well as what's on tap for the latter part of August.
It's a transition-month, with several people graduating and another new lot of DTS students arriving at the YWAM base. As well, winter is slowly winding down. The sun is peaking above the horizon a bit earlier each day. This is a great sign for me, as I go much better in summer when it gets light early in the morning.
  • I taught two lessons for the Basic Leadership School: how to facilitate corporate worship and intercessory prayer, & public speaking.
  • Graduation and goodbyes to the February 2014 Discipleship Training Schools. I’m heading up the organizing of the graduation night for 120+ people.
  • I will be the main facilitator for the first time in an in-school, SHINEgirl program.
  • Two separate Discipleship Training Schools begin this month with new students.
  • New students as well arrive for the Schools of Digital Filmmaking and School of Acting for the Screen.
  • Attend an all-day weekend retreat for the large, worship team from my Brisbane-church.
  • Carry over some of the things I didn't get to last month. Get to click the restart button - thankfully!

what did i get to tick off for july?

  • ☑ Lead worship for our open night on the first Wednesday of the month. (I'm continually growing and love it!)
  • ☑ Host a group of 30 people from Papua New Guinea at the YWAM base. They are in Australia for a prayer and missions trips. I love interacting with people from different cultures. (It was so awesome to have this group at the YWAM base when I led the open worship night as well! I chose the song "How Great Thou Art" so that people could sing in their native-language. This was a powerful moment when the room erupted in different languages: french, spanish, english, pidgin! & more)
  • ☑ Teach and facilitate a SHINEwomen program at my church for a group of 20-30 interns.
  • ☑ Be part of planning our weekly, staff Bible study. This week we kick off Ezra. (This has been such an eye opening and challenging book of the Old Testament. I love the Word and how much it speaks to us even now!)
  • ☑ Get to know the seven young people who are starting their 18-month commitment as staff at the base.
  • ☑ Christmas in July festivities at YWAM Brisbane – can you say potluck!?! (Fun and some terribly-terrific karaoke.)
  • ☑ Drink a green smoothie each day this month. (Lots of kale, spinach and banana in my blender!)
  • ☑ Write a commentary from Press Service International.  (I wrote about my affinity for some New Age concepts.)
  • ☑ Read a whole book. I tend to skip my way through a few books, never really completing one. ("All Fall Down" by Jennifer Weiner - a novel about a woman who, in her attempt to keep her life together, becomes addicted to prescription meds.)
